One of the best night markets in Taiwan, in my opinion, is the Ziqiang Night Market in Hualien County. It’s not that crowded compared to the ones in Taipei. Plus, there’s wide variety of food to choose from. Here are some of the gastronomic finds this bazaar is famous for:

Picture1. TAKOYAKI (OCTOPUS) BALLS

The best takoyaki balls I’ve tasted in my life. Not only it’s “too tender that it melts in your mouth” but the sauce used was unforgettable. I asked the kid to give me extra sauce! This is best eaten while it’s smoking hot. I think these balls are the reason why this night market stands out for me!

2. Everything Deep Fried.
First Step: You choose from the following: Tofu, Crablets, Intestines, Bacon with Asparagus, Chicken, etc.
Second Step: They weigh your order.
Third Step:  They fry it.
Fourth Step: They place it inside a brown bag + put powdered flavor.
Fifth Step: Shake the bag and eat it!

3. FRESH ORANGE JUICE
It’s cold, fresh and cheap! Plus it has real orange pulp bits inside!

4. FRESH FRUITS
One of the best things in Taiwan is the presence of fruit stalls in almost every corner. They’re fresh and affordable too!

5. COFFIN BOARD
This one looks really interesting! My regret is that I discovered this after maximizing my stomach’s threshold!  It’s a thick toast filled with meat, veggies and egg inside the coffin.

6. DONGSHAN DUCK
This might look too exotic for some, but this is one of the most famous specialties here. Don’t look at the duck’s head while eating =)

7. OYSTER OMELETTE
Another delicacy best eaten while it’s hot!

8. CANDY-COATED STRAWBERRIES
This one looks appetizing but I didn’t like it =( I find the coating too hard to eat and the flavor too sweet!

Ziqiang Night Market is open from 5pm to 2am. It is located at the intersection of Ziqiang Road and Heping Road in Ji’an Township in Hualien County.
